WRAPPED IN PLASTIC PHOTOGRAPHY
Music and Portrait Photographer | Ireland
Lisa Byrne is an Irish Photographer. Born in Derry in 1987, she spent a portion of her childhood living in Dublin. She returned to Derry aged 11 where she still lives with her daughter, Lily. After discovering the work of William Eggleston, Anton Corbijn, Duffy, Bresson and Philip Lorca diCorcia; she borrowed her dad’s Minolta and began studying film photography in 2008. She has since used digital as her main medium. Specialising in documentary, music and portrait photography; she focuses on experimentation with colour and atmosphere.
As a form of practice when her daughter was a baby, she turned to self portraiture and photographing inanimate objects. Something she has a continued love for today. She takes inspiration from films, her surroundings and quite often, her mood plays a role in the execution of her portraits. Describing her landscape work as moody and bleak; she opts for an abstract approach over typical beauty.
In 2012, she set up Wrapped in Plastic Photography, taking inspiration from David Lynch’s tv series, ‘Twin Peaks’.
To date she has worked many times with artists Our Krypton Son, Ryan Vail and The Wood Burning Savages. Her music portrait work also includes artists such as Strength, Rosie Carney, SOAK, Orchid Collective, For Foresters, Clanns, The Henry Girls and Ego the Jackal.
In 2016, she took part in her first exhibition. Upcoming projects will include a look into life in Northern Ireland and life after ‘The Troubles’; focusing on the lesser seen side of its communities.
